Ted Huber

As Indiana’s “First Family” of distilling, 7th generation Ted and Greg Huber have continued their family's legacy. Originally a fruit and wine making farm, Huber's Starlight distillery has broadened their portfolio by adding brandy , bourbon and rye to the mix. Located in Starlight, Indiana the distillery was established in 2001.

Starlight is one of the few American Whiskey producers who use a sweet mash method. They utilize grains grown directly on their farm using both a 80 gallon copper pot still from Germany and a 500 liter Vendome brass and copper pot still. The distillery has several Master distillers which include Ted’s two sons Christian and Blake. What makes them unique is that they both use their own mashbills, fermentation methods and distillation techniques which are the aged and blended by the team to create a “consistent house style”.

Aging is done in one of the distillery’s seven warehouses which sits atop a 900 ft limestone bluff that overlooks the Ohio River Valley. The distillery is just over 20 miles north of Louisville, KY and they claim that “the elevation and proximity to the river results in rapid temperature and barometric pressure fluctuations ideal for barrel aging.”

Starlight Distillery is truly a destination distillery. Playing host to nearly 700,000 visitors in 2021. The 700 acre farm is home to a farm market, bakery, ice cream shop, U-pick produce, a full service restaurant, petting zoo, a banquet hall a winery and a distillery. Starlight spirits are divided into four portfolios: Carl T. Huber (bourbon), Old Rickhouse (rye), the Finishing Cask (Signature Series and Limited Releases), and the Brandy, Gin, and Vodka portfolio.
