BBrian Lee Anthony Wess joined Whiskey University in September 2021 & he has been a member of the Whiskey University instructional team since December 2021.
In 2016 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees & on 11 October 2022 Brian earned his Master of Arts Degree, with a Double Major in the Bourbon Capital & Bluegrass Regions, having completed over 60 classes with Whiskey University earning him the title of "Senior Chartered Master Whiskey Taster" and the rank of Lt. Colonel in the “Bourbon Brigade”.
A Veteran of the United Stated Army, Cold War, Inner German ‘Iron Curtain’ Border Cavalry, Brian served in the storied 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry, 1st Regiment of Dragoons established in 1833 that remains the “Most Battle Honored Unit in the U.S. Army”.
Following his military service, Brian was a multiple Honors Graduate of the University at Buffalo, attaining a Triple Major, Bachelor of Arts Degree (Political Science, Environmental Science & History: Early America & Constitutional Development with a Minor in Asian History – Japanese Concentration).
Having moved back to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the mid-1990’s, Brian has been the Realtor®, Broker/Owner of his own award winning, small, independent, veteran owned real estate brokerage in Colorado Springs & Pikes Peak Region since 2003.
An emphatic whisk(e)y enthusiast & aficionado since the mid 1990’s, Brian has received multiple certifications, designations and accolades for proficiency & expertise while also having visited well over 150 distilleries worldwide, even working at a few. Brian counts his first distillery visit as the Jim Beam Distillery in Fall of 1985 while attending Basic Armor Crewman Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Brian began his extensive journey & history in the Whisk(e)y Education & Tour industry beginning with an interest and education in Irish & Scotch Whiskies. His passion to learn about & share the history, heritage, culture & craftsmanship of whisk(e)y led him to a rarely seen appreciation of and certified proficiency in Irish, Scotch & Bourbon whisk(e)y styles receiving industry recognized certifications & designations in all three styles.
Following a visit to Ireland, Scotland, Wales & England in 2007, Brian began developing his Whiskey Heritage Tours to help share his local whiskey appreciation & education classes as well as bi-annual, bespoke, small group tours of Ireland & Scotland’s whisk(e)y distilleries, culture & heritage since 2010.
Brian currently holds a 2013 Certification of Expertise, with a Distinction, in the Sale & Service of Scotch Whisky from the Scotch Whisky Training School in Edinburgh, Scotland.
is a Certified Scotch Whisky Ambassador Tutor with the Whisky Ambassador in Glasgow, Scotland; is a 2016 Graduate of the Irish Whiskey Academy, Midleton Distillery, County Cork, Ireland; a Certificate in Irish Whiskey from Edinburgh Whisky Academy, Edinburgh, Scotland; is a Graduate of the Springbank Distillery Whisky School, Campbeltown, Scotland and is Colorado’s First Executive Bourbon Steward since 2016 with the Stave & Thief Society based in Louisville, KY.
For Whiskey University Brian currently teaches Whiskey 101, Bourbon 201, in addition to classes he has authored for Whiskey University: Introduction to Irish Whisk(e)y #222, Introduction to Whisk(e)y History & Distillation #226 & Advanced Irish Whiskey #228 as well as regional Sensory Tasting Classes that he previously authored prior to joining Whiskey University in 2021.

Major Erik Marsh has been a member of Whiskey University since March of 2023. In 2016 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. Erik earned His Bourbon Diploma on July 16, 2023 after passing ten classes.
Erik has worked in Sports Medicine at the United States Air Force Academy since September or 1994. His primary responsibilities have been working with the Ice Hockey, Golf and Football teams. Erik has had the opportunity to work with USA hockey at several Inline Championship teams winning a Gold Medal in Sweden in 2010. Erik and his wife Shannon live in Colorado Springs and are currently empty nesters. Erik promotes Whiskey University in the Colorado Springs Market
Erik is a graduate of the Fall Class of 2023, graduating from Whiskey University on August 15, 2023, where he has earned his Associate of Science degree with 19 classes, and the title of "Certified Bourbon Taster". Marsh completed his 29th course, earning his Bachelor’s of Science degree, and completed his 38th course, earning his Bachelor’s of Artsdegree. Recently he completed his 48th course, earning his Master of Science degree and the rank of Major in the Bourbon Brigade.
Erik became interested in Whiskey after a trip to Lexington to attend the Bluegrass Stakes and took a distillery tour at the Makers Mark distillery. After that visit he was hooked. Marsh has been back several times to Kentucky and Tennesse in which he has had the chance to visit distilleries such as Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, Jack Daniels and the Nelson Brothers Greenbriar to name a few.
Whiskey University became an interest in 2023 as it was simply a great vehicle to continue his passion for history and information. What began as a passing interest has grown to a hunger for more and more information. Erik has completedmajors in the “Bluegrass Region, Bourbon Capital and is currently working on the Tennessee Whiskey Major.
